Auburn was glad to return to its home crowd, but the end result wasn't what the orange and blue-clad fans had hoped for.

The Tigers fell to Alabama, 3-1 on Wednesday, moving their season record to 6-8 (0-3 SEC).

Alabama true freshman Alyiah Wells made her presence known, and was a big contributor in the Tide’s defeat of Auburn. The 6-foot-2 middle blocker recorded 14 kills on 28 attempts and also managed to post a pair of digs.

Auburn posted a 5-4 edge in aces, two of which came from junior Morgan Kull. Another pair was produced by sophomore Katie Persons.

Auburn's offense was highlighted by 6-foot-4 sophomore Tatum Shipes, who turned in 17 kills on 43 attempts and also recorded eight digs of her own.

“I like the response we had this week after a tough weekend,” head coach Rick Nold said. “It was a hard-fought match tonight and there were a couple of plays that we needed to make that we weren’t able to. That was the difference."

Auburn hosts Tennessee this Sunday at 1:30 p.m. CST.
