An Auburn University professor was arrested on five counts of possession of child pornography.
On June 2, Amarjit Mishra, 42, was arrested and charged, according to a news release from the Auburn Police Department. Mishra is an assistant professor in the college of veterinary medicine.
Auburn University released a statement surrounding the arrest.
"We are aware of the allegations against and arrest of Amarjit Mishra. He has been placed on administrative leave and is not on campus. Mishra will remain on leave while the University evaluates this matter."
The arrest of Mishra arose from an investigation in late March from Auburn Police and members of the Alabama Internet Crimes Against Children task force, where he was developed as a suspect.
After being arrested and charged with five counts of possession of child pornography last week, Mishra's bond was set at $50,000.
Additional charges for Mishra are pending.
