Hailey Bergenthal, a junior studying law and justice, is the sole candidate for Student Government Association treasurer and aims to focus on financial literacy and accessibility during her term.
She promises that by "Banking on Bergenthal," students can invest in resources, appreciate wealth and bank on their futures as Auburn alumni.
"I believe it is crucial that the Auburn family invest in its current students and their future outcomes," Bergenthal said. "In order to become a university with some of the most impressive graduates it is important to prepare future graduates on all fronts, including finances."
Bergenthal's goals also include integrating financial technology into student's lives by creating a website that houses all financial materials that are easy for Auburn students to navigate.
The wealth of Auburn's alum network is another aspect that Bergenthal takes advantage of.
"I want to create lasting relationships with alumni who work in the financial field and begin a speaker series that provides students with current financial information," Bergenthal said. "Recordings of each series can be provided as a financial resource alongside already created materials."
The ability for students to rely on their financial skills is Bergenthal's final aim.
"Ensuring students are well educated in finances will provide the confidence to thrive after graduation. Utilizing the relationship with UBS and marketing the program across campus gives seniors and recent graduates access to not only a financial coach but also online wealth management," Bergenthal said.
Bergenthal has a familial tie to Auburn despite being an out-of-state student. From Greenville, South Carolina, she grew up an Auburn fan because her parents attended and met at Auburn.
Originally, Bergenthal planned to not follow in her parents' footsteps and not to come to Auburn but after she toured the campus she fell in love.
Bergenthal has held multiple leadership positions, including SGA assistant vice president of finance, SGA assistant director of Hey Day and Creed Day, and Panhellenic director of Greek Sing. She has also served as an SGA Freshman Forum member, a Panhellenic recruitment counselor and a member of the Cardinal Key Honor Society.
"I am honored to run to become Auburn's next SGA treasurer. My time at Auburn University has been a very meaningful experience. Each encounter I have had on this campus has shaped the person I am today," said Bergenthal. "I walked into my freshman year unsure where to find my place and I was met time and time again by members of SGA."
Bergenthal's aspirations do not end at Auburn; as a law and justice major, she hopes to further her studies.
"My hope is to attend Law school after receiving my undergraduate degree," Bergenthal said.
Bergenthal is running unopposed for SGA treasurer. Elections will occur on Feb. 7 and callouts will be held at 10 p.m. at Cater Hall.
