Auburn University began its 169th year of classes on Aug. 18. Established in 1856, Auburn has served as a place of higher education for countless generations of students. Time has created differences between the generations, but they all had one thing in common: hopefulness for the upcoming school year. This year, Auburn students are looking forward to many activities, from spending time with loved ones to establishing routines to participating in various student organizations.

This fall, the Auburn University Raptor Center (AURC) is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the eagle flight, a “uniquely Auburn” pre-game tradition at each home football game. With the return of its event "Football, Fans and Feathers," the AURC is launching a new fundraising campaign – active now until Nov. 29 – to raise awareness and donations for the Center's raptors, commemorate the history of its beloved birds and ensure the longevity of the tradition.

On Thursday, Aug. 28, Lee County Literacy Coalition (LCLC) hosted the Great Grown-Up Spelling Bee, an adult spelling bee with the goal of raising awareness for literacy needs in Lee County. The fundraiser brought local businesses together to support LCLC’s mission of providing tutoring and resources to adults who struggle with literacy.

It’s no secret that Auburn University’s University Program Council goes all out for their First 56 concerts — with big names like The Driver Era, Maddie and Tae, Dayglow and The Brook and The Bluff performing in previous years. The fall concert on Saturday, Aug. 23, was no exception as Joshua Bassett made the stage at the Jay and Susie Gogue Performing Arts Center his own.

Booksellers welcomed book lovers and wine connoisseurs alike to its July Page Pairings, a monthly, ticketed event where guests can enjoy a selection of six different wines that each correspond to a selected novel. Garden in the Park, an art festival hosted annually by Keep Opelika Beautiful, will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, at Municipal Park in Opelika. Recruitment and orientation are major parts of the college experience. Not only for incoming students, but for the orienteers interacting with these students. For Auburn, the “big three,” would be student recruiters, Camp War Eagle counselors and Pi Chis. These orienteers see hundreds of students a year and when incoming students arrive on campus, these faces are the typically first ones seen.
