Grier earns All-SEC honors

The Southeastern Conference announced its 2016 Baseball Awards and All-SEC Teams on Monday. Auburn's Anfernee Grier was the only Tiger to earn an honor, being named to the second All-SEC and All-Defensive teams.

“I’ve been impressed with Anfernee since day one,” Auburn head coach Butch Thompson said. “How hard he worked in every rep that he took. For him to have such a great junior year is really special. He is one of the most well-rounded student-athletes I have ever worked with. He excelled as a defender, a runner and a hitter. Most of all, Anfernee represented Auburn University in a first-class manner. I’m really happy for him to receive this recognition.”

Grier was a .366 hitter this season with 12 home runs and 41 RBI. He completed the season as the fifth overall batter in the SEC, placing fourth in average, second in hits (87), first in runs (56), second in home runs, seventh in stolen bases (19) and first in total bases (137). He notched four home runs with 17 RBI and five stolen bases in conference play.

The outfielder was named a preseason All-SEC first team selection in February and a member of the Golden Spikes watch list midseason. His three-year career at Auburn has totaled a .323 batting average, 207 hits and 72 RBI with 35 stolen bases and a .966 fielding percentage.
