A spirit that is not afraid

Pearl, Auburn agree to contract extension

In his fourth season on The Plains, Pearl led the Tigers to 26 wins and their first NCAA Tournament berth since 2003 to go along with the conference title.

Through all the scrutiny and distress during the FBI probe last season, Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl maintained that his program was and is doing things the right way en route to Auburn's first SEC championship since 1999.

Pearl was rewarded on Monday with a contract extension through the 2022-23 season.

“Our coaches and student-athletes believe in Auburn and we love it,” Pearl said. “We came here to work hard, make a positive difference on the campus and in the community and bring credibility and championships back to Auburn basketball. I’m grateful to President Dr. Steven Leath and Director of Athletics Allen Greene for their commitment and support. My family is blessed to be a part of the Auburn Family.”

In his fourth season on The Plains, Pearl led the Tigers to 26 wins and their first NCAA Tournament berth since 2003 to go along with the conference title.

“It was a historic season for Auburn basketball and one that was matched by excellence in the classroom as well,” Auburn Athletic Director Allen Greene said. “We take great pride in providing our student-athletes with an abundance of resources to help with their overall development.

"Coach Pearl shares my commitment to ensuring the holistic development of our student-athletes and adhering to the mission of Auburn University as an institution of higher learning.”

The monetary figure for the contract extension are unknown at this time, but it is expected that Pearl will earn a raise from his previous $2.45 million salary.

Auburn, which received good news on the return of Austin Wiley, Jared Harper and Bryce Brown last week, will participate in the 2018 Maui Invitational in November. Details on the rest of the 2018-19 schedule will be released at a further date.
