Stop fighting the traffic, find the more unknown parking areas

Parking closer to campus has become a tough task for students trying to get to class, but there are some parking areas where students can park and will not get ticketed or towed.

Trying to get a good park in the morning is like playing musical chairs, especially when trying to park in the C-zone parking lots by Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum off Donahue Drive and the student parking lot across from Jordan-Hare Stadium, which are the quickest and closest student parking areas to campus.

"I either come to school early or I just follow people around to get a park," said Ty-Anne Tench, a sophomore in nutrition dietetics.

In addition to those two main C-zone parking lots, there are other parking areas available where students can park quickly, but may be unaware of.

The parking lot in front of the Student Activities Center and some of the parking lot beside the AG Heritage Park off of West Samford Avenue are C-zone parking areas that require the proper parking decal or you will be fined.

There are also C-zone parking areas along Biggio Drive off Donahue Drive, past the Intramural Fields and along Lem Morrison Drive.

"The intramural field parking spaces are usually available," said Rex Huffman, Auburn University Transit Manager. "And it is a good standpoint from the transit side where you can park and ride."

The Residence Overflow lot down Thach Avenue and a section of the parking area behind The Village Residence Halls are two large c- zone parking lots further off campus where students can catch the Tiger Transit to campus.

There is also a C-zone parking lot off of Mell Street/Lem Morrison Drive behind the Hill Residence Halls, where transit stops are available. C-zone parking is also available along Mell Street, Lem Morrison and Garden Drive on the south end of campus.

"I feel like we should be able to park on campus where there is a parking space without zoning," said Brittani Harris, a senior majoring in Electrical Engineering. "You pay for a parking tag and you can't even get a park."

For students without a c-zone parking decal, parking is available at the parking meters on College and Gay street and at the five hour meters on Wright Street on the side of Sky Bar. Students are also allowed to park along the roads of Cox and Thomas and Toomer street, and Glenda Avenue without getting fined or towed.
