A spirit that is not afraid

A different look at AU Sports

This semester we have implemented a new page in the Sports section of The Auburn Plainsman.

The Lifesports page is dedicated to all sports outside of varsity sports.

Of course, we are all huge varsity sports fans, but everyone enjoys reading their own or their roommate's and friend's name in the paper.

I was once a member of a club sport here, and hardly anyone knew we existed.

Even though we practiced five times a week, not including conditioning practices, no one else recognized our hard work. There are 19 club sports at Auburn and 15 intramural sports with countless

leagues and teams. Even without the sweet

Auburn Under Armour gear, these teams are still athletes participating in sports at Auburn and that's where the Sports staff come in.

The Lifesports page will appear every week on page D3 and will feature stories about teams, rare sports, schedules, tournament brackets and pic- tures.

It's our goal to get more "student-athlete's" names in the paper and to let the Auburn Community know about as many athletic events as possible,

This addition to the Sports section gives us the opportunity to tell the stories about teams and athletes that many of us wouldn't have otherwise heard about.

We've all heard the funny and bizarre team names that intramural teams come up with, and we're going to give those athletes a chance to tell Auburn where those names come from and what the stories behind them are,

For example I heard one intramural team's name is "Bye week."

This name throws off their opponents when checking out the schedule and gives them a possible win by forfeit of the other team.

Their are many untold stories of non-varsity athletes and teams and since I was once a member of such teams, I guarantee humorous tales.

I don't mean for the Lifesports page to take anything away from the amazing student-athletes we are so lucky to have at Auburn, but I just want to take a different look at sports.

There are so many club and intramural sports offered that I didn't even know existed until we started brainstorming this new section.

Teams such as the Table Tennis club and intramural horseshoes are open for students to join.

Basically, the Lifesports page is a tribute to all of us who are not ever going pro, but still enjoy all that sports have to offer us.
