The then No. 16 Auburn University Gymnastics team took on the No. 7 Arkansas Razorbacks Friday in The Barnhill Arena in Fayetteville, Ark.
The Tigers fell to Arkansas with a score of 197.025196.425.
Despite the loss they had a season-best score of 196.425.
Senior Krissy Voss took home a career-high in the all-around with a 39.225.
Leading Auburn was sophomore Allyson Sandusky who earned 9.85 on vault, beam and floor. Sophomore Kylie Shields had top performances on vault, beam and bars. Associate head coach Rachelle Thompson said all 14 girls' performances were great, which led to an amazing meet. The Tigers scores for the night were vault with 49.200; beam with 49.225; floor exercise with 48.875; and uneven bars with 49.125.
"The meet this week was absolutely amazing," Thompson said. "We potentially hit what was set for them and did the best job we could. It was really amazing to see the girls rise this weekend." Voss said she felt the teams overall performance was great.
"It was the highest road score and everyone stayed very excited and stress free throughout the meet," Voss said.
Voss and Thompson both said a main area of focus for Auburn before the next meet was its floor performance.
They said this is the area with the most potential for the team.
"Cleaning up the floor is what we are focusing on for our upcoming meets, we need to clean up landings and put more skills in, but we will continue to work on that down the line." Thompson said. "By the end of February we should be a top team on floor."
Voss said she felt her performance against the Razorbacks was good.
"I am very proud of my all-around score, but I feel I can do better," Voss said. "I need to fix easy mistakes, need to work on overall vault landings, detail work and technique, pointing toes and such."
In preparing for the meet next week against the Kentucky Wildcats, Voss said the team is doing many of the same assignments, but the assignments will continue to increase as the weeks progress, especially on floor exercises to control landings, but Voss feels the team is pretty solid on all of other events.
"We're really looking forward to the meet against Kentucky," said sophomore Kendall Swartz. "We made some great strides against Arkansas last week and we will continue the process against the Wildcats."
The Tigers are preparing for a second consecutive road meet and the obstacles that come with competing on the road.
"Any time you are traveling with 8-hour bus trips it makes a difference, but the girls are so used to competing that it doesn't give them too much trouble," Thompson said. "When you get into college it plays a little on them but doesn't affect their performance. We just pay close attention to it all and make sure they are well rested before meets and work outs."
Prior to Friday's meet, Auburn was No. 16, but their performance against the then No. 7 Arkansas earned them a No. 14 ranking.
The Tigers will face the No. 12 Wildcats at 6 p.m. in Lexington, KY.
