The primary results are in: Here's who won and who's heading to runoffs

The unofficial results from Alabama's May 19 primary elections have been released by the Alabama Secretary of State. With several key races on the line for future elections, here's who Lee County residents can expect on the ballot, along with their vote percentage. The candidates will face off against each other during runoffs on June 16 and the Nov. 3 midterm general election.

The list is organized in alphabetical order of offices, political parties and candidates' last names. 

Attorney General

Democratic primary winner

  • Jeff McLaughlin: Uncontested

Republican runoff

  • Jay Mitchell: 34.14%
  • Katherine Robertson: 40.53%

Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries

Democratic primary winner

  • Ron Sparks: Uncontested

Republican runoff

  • Corey Hill: 35.2%
  • Christina Woerner McInnis: 34.86%

Governor

  • Democrat Doug Jones: 78.6%
  • Republican Tommy Tuberville: 85.48%

Lee County Commission District 2

  • Republican Ross Morris: 60.71%

Lee County Commission District 4

  • Republican Tony Langley: 56.09%

U.S. Senate

Democratic runoff

  • Dakarai Larriett: 29.11%
  • Everett Wess: 39.57%

Republican runoff

  • Jared Hudson: 25.63%
  • Barry Moore: 39.18%

The state also passed both Statewide Amendment 1 and 2. Amendment 1, which passed with 81.59% of the vote, allows judges to deny bail for defendants accused of solicitation, attempt or conspiracy to commit murder, alongside firing weapons in occupied homes and spaces. Amendment 2 passed with 57.75% of the vote and prohibits any reduction in district attorneys' pay while they are in office.

Voter turnout was estimated to be around 23% of the state's 3.8 million registered voters, according to the Alabama Secretary of State's website. Lee County's turnout was around 21%.
