Football practice update

After taking the day off Monday, the No. 5 Auburn football team continued preparations for Saturday's game against the No. 6 Louisiana State University Tigers.

The team practiced for two hours in full pads at the Athletics Complex practice fields Tuesday night.

"Practice was good," said Gus Malzahn, offensive coordinator. "Our guys showed a lot more energy than last week and seemed focused."

The Tigers opened practice with special teams work before moving on to individual and position drills.

The Tigers practiced against the scout teams before the offense and defense came together for the final periods.

Following practice, Malzahn spoke of the LSU defense and the challenges they bring.

"They are extremely talented," Malzahn said. "They have a lot of speed. This is the most talented defense that we've seen, there's no doubt about it."

Auburn's secondary took another hit last Saturday as the Tigers not only gave up 428 yards passing, but suffered two injuries as well.

Sophomore cornerback T'Sharvan Bell is listed as day-today after suffering a minor injury while senior safety Aairon Savage suffered a broken bone in his right ankle and will be out for several weeks.

Replacing Savage in Saturday's game will be junior safety Mike McNeil.

Both teams enter the game with identical records of 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the Southeastern Conference.

Kickoff will be at 2:30 p.m. in Jordan-Hare Stadium and will be televised nationally by CBS.
