Football team look for defensive improvements at Sunday practice

The No. 5 Auburn Tigers attempt to improve defensively after giving up 43 points in Saturday's win over Arkansas.

The team had a short, hour-long practice tonight following a film review of Saturday's game.

Defensive coordinator Ted Roof said he was disappointed in his team's performance Saturday and hopes to make enough adjustments for the upcoming game against No. 6 LSU.

"We spent the day today correcting mistakes and going through thing and making sure we can correct these things before Saturday afternoon," Roof said. "We're stressing to our players the sense of urgency because we have to put four quarters together of defense."

Defensive linebacker Josh Bynes, who had eight tackles and two interceptions against Arkansas, said the points given up didn't make a difference in the game.

"I'm not saying it doesn't matter, but the only thing to think about today is we won," Bynes said. "There really wasn't a whole lot of mistakes we saw, we just weren't in position or didn't make plays on balls. That's all it really was; we were there at the right time, we just didn't make plays on the ball, but there was excellent coverage down field."

Offensively, junior quarterback Cam Newton said playing LSU will be both challenging and fun.

"We've got to be on our A-game this week because they have a lot of electrifying players on their team," Newton said. "Confidence is nothing they lack. I think they believe in the scheme they are in."
