Alumni tackle benefit for relief

Reliving a past Iron Bowl may be impossible, but witnessing a modern-day alumni Iron Bowl game can still be in your future.

Former Auburn and Alabama players will meet Aug. 13 to compete in an alumni day flag football game to benefit the victims of the April 27 tornadoes.

Although names of who will play in the flag football game have not been released, some of the greats who will attend the weekend-long event include Pat Dye, Stan White and Joe Cribbs for the Tigers and Bobby Humphrey, Chris Mohr and Ray Perkins for the Tide.

The game will take place at Spain Park High School in Hoover.

Gates open at 5:30 p.m., autographs will be from 6 to 7 p.m., and the opening ceremony will follow.

General admission is $20, and fans can find out how to purchase tickets at www.alumniday.com.

"It's going to be a low-key and friendly affair," said former Auburn quaterback Stan White.

After the football game, the fun will continue with a golf tournament Aug. 15.

White said the players want to make it clear that they stand united in the aftermath of this tragic event.

"We hope to never have an April 27 again, but that doesn't mean this can't be something that continues." White said.
