Homecoming nominees chosen, top five selected

On Sept. 20 the top five Auburn homecoming nominees were selected from a total of 20 girls.

The top 20 nominees were Jaclyn Walz, Emily Riley, Becca Goad, Lauren Thomas, Grace Ann Hollis, Mallory Gilliland, Elizabeth Dunklin, Nicole Halpin, Kathryn Crowley, Anna Davidson, Melanie Head, Lauren Duckworth, Ashley Culpepper, Wesley Toland, Sara Hix, Caroline Dunklin, Kristen Gue, Lauren Bailey, Blanche Alverson, and Megan Stephenson.

To be a potential nominee, the candidate must have at least a 2.0 GPA, be in her fourth academic year and be nominated by a Auburn University program before submitting the application and attending interviews said Mallory Gilliland, top five nominee and senior in hotel and restaurant management.

A panel of various students from organizations across campus judged and selected the top 20 girls throughout an interview process.

The top five nominees are Becca Goad, Mallory Gilliland, Anna Davidson, Kathryn Crowley, and Blanche Alverson.

SGA president, Owen Parrish, and faculty of Auburn University selected the top five homecoming queen hopefuls.

This panel of judges evaluated the nominees on whether the candidate is a well-rounded, well-spoken, and confident young woman who will represent Auburn to its fullest said Gilliland.

"Miss Homecoming is an honor title, and she serves as a figure to bridge the connection between alumni and students," Gilliland said.

Gilliland is hopeful and proud of her nomination.

"I am truly grateful and honored to be considered one of Auburn's top five candidates for the title," Gilliland said.
