A spirit that is not afraid

Auburn Knights swing again Nov. 2

Clear your calendars. Auburn Knights Orchestra is holding a swing dance night with big band jazz tunes at Marriott at Grand National Friday, Nov. 2 from 7 - 11 p.m.

Everyone is welcome, even those who do not know how to swing dance.

"We know that most people probably don't know how to swing dance, so we are providing some basic lessons so that people can get into the 'swing' of things," said Jacob Potter, lead trumpet in orchestra and senior in English.

Lessons will take place from 7 - 8 p.m. The rest of the dancing will continue until 11 p.m.

Auburn Knights Orchestra has been around since 1930. It is a 19-piece band consisting of two vocalists, piano, drums, guitar, bass, four trumpets, four trombones and five saxophones.

It is completely made up of and run by students, faculty and members of the Auburn community, Potter said.

"We play all sorts of events, from weddings to charity events to swing dances, such as the one we are hosting Friday," Potter said.

So far its Facebook page says 213 students plan to attend the event.

Tickets are $5 for students when they bring their IDs, and $10 for the general public. Couples can pay $15 as a special deal.
