The women's basketball team was eliminated in the first round of the SEC Women's Basketball Tournament by No. 22 LSU 65-62 Thursday, March 7.

It was a close game that came down to the last couple of possessions, but in the end LSU managed to hang on by a narrow margin.

Auburn was down by as much as 18 points with 12 minutes to play and was as close as two points by the end.

"I thought they gave a great effort in the second half; it just took too long to play," said Coach Terri Williams-Flournoy. "If we'd have come with that same type of intensity at the start of the game, we wouldn't have been in the situation to be down by 18."

Blanche Alverson led the Tigers with 17 points and nine rebounds, and Chadarryl Clay added 14 points and three steals.

With a final record of 16-14, Auburn is eligible for the WNIT and will find out if they are selected Monday, March 18.
