The Cater Hall Lawn once again erupted in cheers tonight as members of the Student Government Association read off the lucky 21 contestants left in the Homecoming race. As names were raddled off one by one, sections of the lawn would sound off in shouts of happiness. In years past, SGA has narrowed the number from all possible contestants down to 20, but this year was a rare occurrence. Two of the Miss Homecoming contestants had the same amount of points, resulting in a tie and ultimately leaving an extra Miss Homecoming contestant still in the race.
As their names were called, the contestants gathered on top of the back porch of Cater Hall, where they shared their excitement and happiness with one another. The smiles and sighs of relief made it obvious that each contestant has worked very hard to get to this point. Caroline Harrell, a senior Radio, TV, and Film major, and member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority was one of the lucky 21 to have her name called this evening.
" I am really excited. I was nominated by my sorority and I feel honored to be in such a top group of women," said Harrell as she was huddled around her fellow contestants.
Tomorrow, the twenty one Miss Homecoming contestants will undergo yet another interview before the next round of cuts tomorrow afternoon. SGA is set to announce the top 5 Miss Homecoming contestants tomorrow evening at 9:00 P.M. on the Cater Hall Lawn.
