A hazardous materials spill was reported in Funchess Hall just before 5 p.m. on Thursday.
"What we know right now is that a storage bin or locker fell over and there were some chemicals in it," said Mike Clardy, the director of Auburn University media relations. "We don't know what they are right now. Hazmat is about to enter the building and get a sense for what they had in the containers."
The contents of the container remain unknown and Auburn students and residents are advised to avoid the area until the situation has cleared.
Clardy was unable to give a timetable for when Funchess Hall would be cleared of the spill.
"The call was made to evacuate the building and to go ahead and take safety precautions," Clardy said.
Along with Hazmat units, the Auburn fire and police departments were present directing traffic along North College Street.
No injuries have been reported from the spill.
