Auburn defeated Winthrop going into its 12th game of the season Sunday, Feb. 15, coming back from two victories the day before against Mercer and Eastern Illinois.
With four runs off of five hits in the start of the game, the Tigers settled an offensive advantage early with Tiffany Howard's third triple in two games and a home run from Jade Rhodes. Rhodes currently leads the team with 20 RBIs.
"Everyone has that feeling of their bat when they hit the ball," Rhodes said. "It hits it right at the sweet spot. You kind of have to have the mental mind state you can do this; be confident."
Kasey Cooper made the highlights with ability to steal. When she sees a changeup, she takes off.
"Kasey Cooper is so fast that she could turn her light off and be in bed before it's dark, said head coach Clint Myers. "We pick and choose where we run."
On offense, the Tigers managed to get two runners out on one play in both the first and fourth innings.
Carlee Wallace started off the Tiger's second time at bat with a home run that would add to four additional runs, which were mostly walks.
The Tigers seemed to have grabbed the win by the fourth inning with 12 runs ahead of Winthrop, including Haley Fagan's homerun bringing in two and a first time collegiate hit for Sydney Waldrop, when Auburn surrendered 4 runs on defense.
Auburn then answered with three more runs in the fifth and was able to hold Winthrop to take the win via run-rule, 15-4.
With the Tigers hitting the road soon for Tampa, Florida, Myers said she has no concern with the team's success without a home-field advantage.
"As long as we do what we're supposed to do, it doesn't matter where we play, nothing changes." Myers said.
The Tigers stay undefeated with a 12-0 record and will take on Georgia State Wednesday, Feb. 18, in Auburn. \0x200B
