The Tigers' softball team continued its winning streak in the second day of the 2015 Plainsman Invite with a doubleheader shutout against Evansville and George Washington.
Starting strong offensively, the Tigers brought in nine runs. Emily Carosone hit a grand slam in the top of the first inning against Evansville, making it her second in three games so far this season.
"I try to keep it simple," Carosone said. "I keep my zone and look for my pitch in my zone ... I see the ball coming in and it's just natural, mechanics take over."
In the first match against Evansville in the bottom of the 3rd inning, head coach Clint Myers put in his nonstarters, who brought success to the team.
"We got 23 out of 24 people in a ball game ... that's pretty darn good," Myers said. "Everybody works hard so when they get their opportunity. They really enjoy it."
The game ended under mercy rule in the bottom of the fifth inning with the Tigers leading 12-0.
The Tigers continued to rule the field in the second game with five runs in the first inning including a homerun by Jade Rhodes. In the top of the fifth inning, the Tiger's stayed consistently tight in field position and shut down George Washington quickly, grabbing the win soon after with their eighth run in offense.
The second game ended with another shutout, 8-0. Although it was a solid win, Myers said he expects better.
"(George Washington) gave us eight passes," Myers said, "and with seven hits we had fifteen runners, and only scored 8?"
With Myers's discontent came hope for the last day of the Plainsman Invite against Appalachian State and Chattanooga.
"Tomorrow will be another day," Myers said. "Tomorrow we expect to be good and come out and battle like we're capable; swing the bats, play good defense and give good pitching." \0x200B
