Auburn’s first conference series of the year ended on a sour note Sunday, March 15, as the Tigers fell 6-1 to host No. 6 Texas A&M, getting swept in the process.
The Tigers (13-7, 0-3) got on the board first when Sam Gillkin launched his first career home run in the fifth inning to give Auburn a 1-0 lead, but the Aggies responded in the fifth with four runs of their own off of starter Trey Wingenter to take a 4-1 lead.
Wingenter allowed four runs and took the loss, dropping his record to 1-1 on the year. Cole Lipscomb came on in relief and pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings while striking out three. Justin Camp gave up two more runs in the eighth.
Sophomore outfielder Anfernee Grier collected a single in the third, giving him a hit in 19 of 20 games played this season.
The Tigers will look to get back on track Tuesday, March 17, in Birmingham when they travel to face UAB.
