Auburn men’s tennis falls to Vanderbilt

The Auburn men’s tennis team took on Vanderbilt Thursday in College Station, Texas for the second round of the SEC tournament. After beating Arkansas on Wednesday, the Tigers needed a great outing to defeat the team that beat them 4-0 in Nashville earlier in the year.

The Tigers finished better than in their first meeting with the Commadores, but Auburn still lost 4-2.

However, the Tigers were able to capture the doubles point against Vandy with wins on courts one and three.

On court one, with junior Marko Krickovic paired with sophomore Maxime Hinnisdaels, the Tigers were able to beat Vanderbilt’s Rhys Johnson and Gonzalez Austin 6-3.

Junior Joseph Van Dooren and sophomore Dante Saleh were able to clinch the doubles point with a 6-4 victory.

Senior Lukas Ollert was the only Tiger to win in singles. His 6-2 6-4 win over eighth ranked Gonzalez Austin is Ollert’s fourteenth win of the season.

Krickovic lost 6-4 6-4 on court two while Hinnisdaels lost in three sets 6-7 6-0 6-1 on court three. Saleh lost on court four 6-2 7-6, and on court five, Van Dooren lost 1-6 6-2 6-4.

The Tigers are out of the SEC tournament, but they have until May 8 to train for the NCAA tournament.
