Auburn beats Kennesaw State 6-0

The Auburn baseball team faced the Kennesaw State Owls Wednesday. The 29-16 Tigers beat the 25-20 Owls 6-0 on Star Wars night.

Senior right-hander Robby Clements got the start for the fourth time this season. Clements to this point is 3-0 with an ERA of 3.48. Clements finished with 7 innings pitched, three hits, no runs, and a career high eight strikeouts.

Clements said after the game that he felt really good and he had all three pitches feeling pretty good.

“I felt pretty good,” Clements said, “That was my longest career outing. I haven’t thrown that much in a while. It was a lot of fun.”

“I was fortunate enough to have all three pitches tonight,” Clements said,” I left a few change-ups up that they hit to Melvin pretty hard, but he stayed down on every one of them. Everything was pretty on point.”

Following a scoreless opening inning, the Tigers scored three in the bottom of the second. Sophomore Kyler Deese put the Tigers up with a three run homer. Sophomore Blake Logan scored from third base while junior Jordan Ebert scored from first base.

In the fifth, the Tigers padded their lead with a single RBI from sophomore Daniel Robert. Fellow sophomore Anfernee Grier scored following his 20th double of the season.

Ebert showed up on the stat sheet again with a RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning. Junior Bo Decker scored from third base following two consecutive sacrifice bunts from Logan and junior Cody Nulph.

After the game, Ebert said that this is a different type of team compared to those he’s been a part of in the past.

“This is a different team,” Ebert said, “ I’ve been here a long time. In my opinion, I think it might have been the Ole Miss game, the 14 nothing game, but ever since that I think everyone is starting to believe”

Following the seventh inning, Auburn made a pitching change to sophomore left-handed pitcher Will Thompson. Thompson played two innings and allowed no hits to finish out the game.

In the bottom of the eighth sophomore catcher Ben Craft scored after walking while pinch hitting. Craft got to third before scoring of a ball that got past the catcher by way of a single from junior pinch hitter Alex Polston.

The Tigers now move to 30-16, and their current six-game winning streak leads all current SEC team streaks.

Auburn is set to play at South Carolina May 1st-3rd in the Tigers last series before facing rival Alabama for a three game series May 8th-10th.
