Auburn baseball (30-17, 10-12) dropped its series opener against South Carolina 10-1 Friday, May 1, at Carolina Stadium.
A grand slam from South Carolina’s Kyle Martin in the eighth inning capped things off for the Gamecocks. Martin recorded a career-high seven RBIs on the night including a grand slam and a two-run home run.
Cole Lipscomb (6-2) took the loss for Auburn after allowing three runs, three walks and striking out five batters through six innings.
Jack Wynkoop (W, 7-4) picked up the win after allowing one run, eight hits, no walks and 10 strikeouts through eight innings pitched.
The Tigers scored their only run in the third inning on a RBI single from Daniel Robert that plated Anfernee Grier.
The Tigers will continue the series with South Carolina on Saturday, May 2, at 2:30 p.m.
