Auburn baseball (30-17, 10-12) dropped its series opener against South Carolina 10-1 Friday, May 1, at Carolina Stadium. A grand slam from South Carolina’s Kyle Martin in the eighth inning capped things off for the Gamecocks.
After a long and grueling road to recovery, Auburn pitcher Cole Lipscomb was finally in the spotlight after he recorded his first career complete game against Ole Miss on Friday, April 17. The Prattville native’s outstanding performance included a career-high 10 strikeouts in Auburn’s 3-1 victory over the Rebels, and earned the him the honor of being named SEC Pitcher of the Week on Monday, April 20. “It’s a huge honor,” Lipscomb said.
“It’s the first sweep we’ve had since I’ve been here and hopefully we will have a couple more the next couple weeks,” Robert said. “Honestly, we needed a sweep. We needed to pick a game up and I’m glad we did.”
Auburn volleyball has tipped off its competition segment of its spring in preparation for the upcoming 2015 season. “Right now, its about getting people on the other side of the net and getting the competitive juices flowing, but at the same time, working on the things we do everyday in practice,” said coach Rick Nold.
Five hitless innings were in the book before Auburn (26-16, 8-11 SEC) pushed two runs across in the sixth inning, and Damon Haecker sealed the win with a home run in the ninth to defeat Florida A&M 3-2 Tuesday, April 21, at Plainsman Park. “We didn't have a lot of energy in the dugout, and I guess that is coming off the emotions of last weekend,” said head coach Sunny Golloway.
Although Auburn left 12 runners stranded, starting pitcher Cole Lipscomp led the Tigers to a 3-1 victory over Ole Miss Friday, April 17 at Plainsman Park. In Auburn’s first Friday win over Ole Miss since 2011, the redshirt sophomore recorded career-highs across the board.
Auburn walk-on quarterback Tucker Tuberville was always given a hard time from his father about spray-painting his hair blue and orange before the Tigers’ football games when he was young.
It doesn’t seem like Auburn has a tough decision at quarterback in 2015. Jeremy Johnson is widely projected as the Tigers’ choice to replace the departed Nick Marshall and has been for a while.
Senior diver Fraser McKean received the Male Diver of the Year Award, the Southeastern Conference office announced Tuesday, April 14. The recognition came after his series of finishes in the 2015 SEC Championships, which included a first-place finish on the platform, and the NCAA Championships, where he took fifth in the platform and sixth overall on the 3-meter springboard.
Auburn baseball (21-15, 5-10) dropped the final game of the LSU series in a 6-2 loss Sunday, April 12, at Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Right-hander Justin Camp matched his longest outing since his start against Texas A&M on March 15.
