​Sammie Coates goes to the Steelers

The second day of the 2015 NFL Draft is over, and Auburn’s Sammie Coates leads the former Tiger hopefuls off getting selected by the Pittsburg Steelers in the third round (pick 23, 87th overall).

Coates, who led the Tigers in receiving with 741 yards in 2014, and averaged 21.8 yards per reception, ran a 4.43 40-yd dash at the NFL combine. The former Tiger also tied for the most bench press reps with 23 at the combine.

The Steelers have Antonio Brown, the 2014 leader in receiving yards with 1698 yards and 13 touchdowns. Pittsburg’s second leading receiver was their running back Le’Veon Bell (854), and the third was tight end Heath Miller (761). The Steelers also took receiver Martavias Bryant a year ago with a 4th round pick. Bryant ended the2014 season with 26 receptions for 549 yards.

Rounds four through seven are set to continue Saturday, May 2, in Chicago. The program can be seen at noon on either ESPN or NFL Network.

The Tigers are hoping to have a number of players get drafted in Saturday’s last four rounds including: Gabe Wright, Cameron Artis-Payne, Jermaine Whitehead and C.J. Uzamah among others.
