Tigers add dual-threat quarterback to commitment list

The Tigers picked up their seventh commitment for 2016 on Wednesday afternoon as quarterback Ervin “Woody” Barrett pledged to Auburn during a ceremony at his school.

A 6-foot-2, 219-pound Orlando, Florida native, Barrett is the No.80 prospect in the ESPN 300 and chose the Plains over Oregon and state-rival Alabama. Barrett was the highest rated of the five 2016 ESPN 300 quarterbacks that had yet to make a decision, making his addition to Auburn momentous.

As a junior, Barrett threw for 1,558 yards and 24 passing touchdowns while leading his team to a West Orange High School best 11-2 record. On the ground he added 813 yards and nine touchdowns. The third-ranked dual-threat quarterback in the country will fit perfectly in Gus Malzahn’s spread attack.

ESPN 300 wide receiver Eli Stove committed Saturday as well as one of the top 2017 offensive linemen in the country, Calvin Ashley. Barrett’s addition is the cake-topper of another successful recruiting week for Auburn. Barrett will join a quarterback group consisting of Jeremy Johnson, redshirt freshman Sean White, and true freshman Tyler McQueen.

Auburn has four total commitments ranked in the ESPN 300.
