Caroline Pettey crowned Miss Panhellenic 2015

Caroline Pettey, member of Chi Omega, was crowned Miss Panhellenic 2015 on Thursday, Oct. 29.

Following the opening group number, the contestants walked the stage individually for several different competitions.

First, contestants were asked an on-stage question, which counted for 20 percent of their overall score.

They then walked the stage in their choice of game-day attire, which counted for 15 percent of their score.

Lastly, they walked in their evening wear, which counted for 30 percent of their score.

Prior to the competition, the contestants participated in an off-stage interview for 20 percent of their score, while the remainder of their score was based off of their campus involvement, according to Mi’a Callens, director of Miss Panhellenic 2015.

The pageant, formerly known as Miss Greek Week, was called Miss Panhellenic for the first time this year, according to Jill Moore, director of Greek Life.

“The title has changed because we don’t have Greek Week anymore, so the name didn’t make sense,” Moore said in an email. “Greek Week was a week of several Greek-related events.”

Presley Townsend, senior in agriculture communications, said she is happy this Panhellenic tradition remained even though Greek Week no longer exists.

“I love that Panhellenic has kept the event even though there is no longer a Greek Week," Townsend said. "It’s a great way to bond as a sorority and also raises money for the philanthropy, which is huge."

Jordan Norris, junior in exercise science, spoke highly of the event.

“It’s such a fun event to get to see some women represent their sororities and Panhellenic overall,” Norris said. “I love the community atmosphere of everyone supporting one another and it’s so fun to go to.”

Moore said the pageant stayed because it's always been a popular event.

“We have stopped having a Greek Week, but we are have taken the successful and positive parts out of the week and having them as stand-alone things during the year,” Moore said in an email. “One of these things was the pageant, which was well attended and raised a lot of money for philanthropy.”
