A double-overtime loss to Auburn last season was Xavier's worst defeat on the way to the NCAA Tournament.
The Musketeers were able to avenge the loss Saturday, Dec. 19, as Xavier ran away from Auburn, 85-61.
Kareem Canty led Auburn (5-3) with 25 points, his third consecutive 20-point game. Cinmeon Bowers recorded his third consecutive double-double, and T.J. Dunans also scored in double digits with 10.
Auburn also suffered a devastating injury in the loss, as point guard Tahj Shamsid-Deen injured his shoulder for the third time this season. He dislocated both shoulders last year and had already dislocated his right shoulder twice this season.
On Dec. 1, Auburn coach Bruce Pearl said if Shamsid-Deen suffered another shoulder injury, he would have a discussion with him about discontinuing his career.
Xavier (11-0) had five players score in double figures, led by Jalen Reynolds' 18 points.
Auburn never led in the game, as Xavier jumped out to an 8-0 run to begin the game. The Tigers kept the halftime deficit at nine, but Xavier shot over 50 percent from the field in the second half to pull away.
Auburn will return to action on Tuesday against New Mexico State in the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii.
