Presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders will take the stage at Boutwell Memorial Auditorium in Birmingham on Monday Jan. 18.

This will be the Vermont senator’s first campaign stop in Alabama since beginning his run for the Democratic nomination for president.

The event will be the culmination of several events organized in Birmingham this weekend for the campaign.

The series of events, called “Weekend at Bernie’s,” begins Saturday, Jan. 16, at The Saturn in Birmingham. There a concert called “Bernin’ Down the House,” will feature several bands who also organized the event. It costs $12 to enter and all proceeds go to the Sanders campaign.

On Monday, Sanders will arrive in Birmingham and meet with prominent African-American community leaders to discuss Sanders' plans for the country, as well as to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

“He’s coming to talk about Martin Luther King’s legacy, and why we have a responsibility to fellow citizens to make our country more fair,” said Kelvin Datcher, the Alabama Director of Sanders' campaign.

Doors at Boutwell Auditorium open at 6 p.m. and the event begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are free, but the campaign encouraged event goers to RSVP online prior to the event.
