Marcy Harper's strong 2016 season continued on Wednesday morning, as the Auburn pitcher held No. 15 Central Florida's offense in check in a 2-0 win in Orlando.
The game served as both Auburn's first road game and Auburn's first game against a ranked opponent, and while the offense wasn't as prolific as it had been in the first five games (17.4 runs per game), Harper still delivered for the Tigers in a big way. She allowed just four hits and struck out five batters.
Harper is now 3-0 this season and has yet to allow a run.
All of the game's offense came in the first inning. Carlee Wallace hit a two-RBI single, giving Auburn a 2-0 lead that would serve as the game's final score.
Tiffany Howard had one of the game's more interesting plays in the second inning, when she recorded a double on a bunt. UCF's corner infielders charged towards home plate as Howard bunted, causing the second baseman to cover first. The bunt went directly toward second base. Howard then used her speed to reach second base in time.
Auburn (6-0) has now scored 89 runs this season, which is more than four teams had all of last season: IPFW (72), Lafayette (77), Alcorn State (79) and Niagara (87).
