RUNA, a Celtic music group, will make its Alabama debut at Sundilla on Feb. 5 at 7:30 pm at Auburn Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.

Shannon Lambert-Ryan, lead singer for RUNA, said she likes to think of their music as Celtic roots music.

Lambert-Ryan said their music is based in the traditional music of the Celtic Isles, including Irish and Scottish music.

“We like to look back and see where that music comes from, kind of like the roots," Lambert-Ryan said.

Bailey Jones, president of Sundilla, said there are five members in RUNA: two from Ireland, one from Canada, one from Pennsylvania and one from Kentucky.

“That’s a lot of different influences and musicians to all meld into one band,” Jones said. “There should be something that interests just about everybody.”

Lambert-Ryan said RUNA likes to contemporize older styles of music to allow them to be relatable again.

“A lot of people don’t listen to [older styles of music] in the same way that they used to, and so rather than just allowing them to get lost, we like to bring them up to the current time,” Lambert-Ryan said.

The group is excited to bring varying musical styles to audience members, according to Fionán de Barra, guitarist for RUNA.

De Barra said the group is always looking forward to meeting new people and having its music played somewhere for the first time.

“The music that we play is very close to my heart, so I really like seeing people’s reactions at different places," de Barra said.

Lambert-Ryan said people can look forward to a very energetic and engaging show.

“There will be a lot of different musical instruments on stage,” Lambert-Ryan said. “We like to add a whole lot of energy and variety to our show.”

Tickets will be $15 at the door, and $12 advance tickets are available at Spicer’s Music, Blooming Colors and online at www.sundillamusic.com, according to the Sundilla website.

Students can pay for the $12 advance tickets at the door, and children 12 and younger are generally admitted free of charge, according to Jones.

Jones said he recommends people buy advance tickets or arrive early.

“I think this is a show where we’re going to have a really, really good crowd,” Jones said. “I’m thinking it’s going to be a great show, and I’m pretty excited about it myself.”
