Opelika man arrested for robbery and assault

An Opelika man was arrested for a robbery and assault that occurred earlier this month, according to a news release issued by the Auburn Police Division.

Maurice B. Gay, 18, was arrested and charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree assault Thursday, March 10.

The victim was assaulted and robbed by two people while playing basketball near a residence in the 400 block of North Dean Road, according to the release.

The victim was taken to the East Alabama Medical Center where he was treated for minor injuries and subsequently released.

Items taken include a cellphone, clothes and more than $600, according to the release.

APD is currently looking for the second individual but an arrest is anticipated, according to the release. The victim knew Gay, the release stated.

Gay was transported to the Lee County Jail where he is eligible for a $125,000 bond.
