The woman threatening suicide at a rest stop on I-85 southbound has been detained, according to Cpl. Jess Thornton of the Alabama Law Enforcement Association.
The standoff ended at approximately 4 p.m., according to Thornton.
Traffic on I-85 southbound was being diverted to Exit 51 in Auburn.
Officers responded to a rest stop near Exit 42 at approximately 12:30 p.m. A woman with a firearm threatened suicide, according to Thornton.
Thornton said state troopers, along with local law enforcement are trying to peacefully find a solution.
"Right now we have personnel on scene, along with other agencies, attempting to resolve the situation," Thornton said.
Thornton said they shut down the highway because they did not want people to be exposed to her shooting toward the interstate.
The woman was transported to a local hospital for evaluation, according to Thornton, and the Macon County Sheriff's Office will handle any criminal charges.
