For No. 2 Auburn, what was a dominant three-week stretch has become a dominant month. The Tigers (36-4, 9-3 SEC) beat Longwood 5-2 on Saturday night to earn their fourth consecutive weekend series win.
Auburn has won 11 consecutive games, as well as 14 of its last 15.
The Lancers (21-14) opened the scoring in the first inning with an unearned run caused by a throwing error by Emily Carosone. Longwood would not be able to score again with Kaylee Carlson (11-0) on the mound, however, as she allowed just four hits in five innings of action.
Carosone would atone for her error in the bottom of the first, launching a two-run blast – her eigth homer of the season – to give Auburn the lead for good.
The bottom of the second inning was a disaster for Longwood, as several mistakes led to three Auburn runs to make it 5-1. Madi Gipson reached home on a passed ball after reaching base on a walk. Casey McCrackin, who also reached base on a walk, scored on a wild pitch.
Longwood was able to earn a run against relief pitcher Makayla Martin in the sixth inning, but her three-strikeout performance was still enough to finish the game for the Tigers.
