No. 2 Softball blasts Arkansas 21-0 for largest SEC win ever

No. 2 Auburn's winning streak was extended to 14 on Friday, as the Tigers (39-4, 10-3 SEC) cruised past Arkansas, 21-0 in five innings, in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The 21-run victory is the Tigers' most lopsided win ever in an SEC game.

In Auburn's 17th shutout and 17th run-rule victory of the season, 17 Tigers made plate appearances and all 17 of them reached base at least once.

The first inning set the tone for the evening, as Auburn used six walks, two errors, two passed balls, two stolen bases and just one hit — a two-RBI double by Whitney Jordan — to take a commanding 6-0 lead. By the end of the inning, Arkansas had thrown 67 pitches, while Kaylee Carlson had thrown just seven.

Jordan struck again for the Tigers in the second inning, as her bases-loaded triple increased the lead to 9-0.

After a scoreless third inning, Auburn scored four more runs in the fourth. Jenna Abbott's third home run of the season and a two-RBI single by Emily Carosone increased Auburn's lead over Arkansas (17-26, 1-12 SEC) to 13.

As if things weren't already out of hand by the fifth inning, two grand slams ensured that Auburn's beating of Arkansas would be a historic one. Courtney Shea's grand slam was her seventh home run of the season, while freshman Morgan Podany's grand slam was her first collegiate homer. The Tigers have hit eight grand slams this season.

Carlson (12-0) pitched the first three innings, allowing two hits. Senior Marcy Harper relieved Cooper after the third, allowing one hit in two innings. Overall, Auburn had 16 hits to the Razorbacks' three.

This is the third consecutive SEC series that Auburn has started with a five-inning shutout win. The Tigers began the South Carolina series with a 10-0 win and the Kentucky series with a 9-0 win.
