Softball cruises to 13-2 win over No. 12 Georgia, clinches fifth-straight SEC series victory

After needing a walkoff home run to beat No. 12 Georgia, the No. 2 Auburn softball team needed no such dramatics to dispatch the Bulldogs on Saturday.

The Tigers (44-5, 14-3 SEC) won with ease, ending the game in five innings in a 13-2 win over Georgia (37-12, 9-8) to claim their fifth consecutive SEC series.

“You look at how we won the game last night, between the crowd and the players, the whole focus was to come out and continue playing with that energy,” said Auburn coach Clint Myers. “The crowd was in it early, we were in it early, and the big thing was we were able to carry the momentum for all five innings. We got the pitching that we needed, we played defense like we were supposed to, and we clearly have timely hitting.”

Auburn scored in all four of the innings it batted, pushing across two runs in the first inning, three in the second inning, and four in the third in the fourth innings.

Pitcher Makayla Martin picked up her 11th win of the year, going 3.2 innings and striking out a pair of Bulldogs. Rachael Walters finished the game for Auburn.

Friday night's hero, Kasey Cooper, got no such chance for similar heroics Saturday. She tied a school record for walks in a game with four.
