Fifty-eight student-athletes from 31 different institutions were selected to one of three 2016 NFCA Division I All-American teams, the Association announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Auburn's Kasey Cooper earned the third baseman position on the first team for the second year in a row. Second baseman Emily Carosone was named to the second team and first baseman Jade Rhodes was named to the third team.
Cooper's numerous awards include SEC Player of the Year and ESPNW Player of the Year as well as a top-three finalist spot for USA Softball Player of the Year. She is hitting .425 with 71 hits, 17 doubles, 10 home runs, 64 runs scored and an .880 slugging percentage.
Carosone has started all 64 games this year, posting a .405 average with 70 hits, 12 home runs and 59 runs plated. She also boasts and impressive .971 fielding percentage.
Rhodes has 176 at-bats for the Tigers, hitting .335 with 17 home runs, 66 RBI and 120 total bases. The starting first baseman holds a .994 fielding percentage with just three errors in 63 games.
The five conferences - Atlantic Coast Conference, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 and Southeastern Conference - that are represented at this year’s Women’s College World Series have 22 selections, including six student-athletes on the first team. In all, the SEC led the way with 18, while the Pac-12 racked up 10 nods and the Big Ten Conference came in with eight selections.
