Pumpkin Palooza comes to the Plains

The University Programs Council held its first Pumpkin Palooza on the Student Center Green Space on Wednesday, Oct. 12 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. to bring students together to celebrate autumn.

Ashley Watts, UPC director of special projects, said she was happy to see students get excited about fall.

"I think pumpkin patches are kind of a nostalgic thing that people get really excited about because it reminds them about the excitement they used to have about the fall season when they were little kids," Watts said. "Anytime we have a creative workshop, whether it's craft making or painting or wood burning, it's always really cool to see the things people come up with. Everyone is so unique."

UPC President Catherine Schibetta said the event was meant to use painting pumpkins as a way for students to relax during midterms.

"There's pumpkin flavored coffee and light snacks," Schibetta said. "We really just want students to be able to take some time for themselves to do something fun and fall-spirited during the craziness of midterm week."

Schibetta said EPC came up with the idea for Pumpkin Palooza last spring as a way to bring new events to students for the fall semester.

"This is actually a new idea this year," Schibetta said. "Our wonderful Director of Special Projects, Ashley Watts and her amazing team came up with it in the spring and we're all very excited."

Watts said she is hoping Pumpkin Palooza becomes a new tradition.

"We are hoping to make this an annual event if everything goes well and people seem excited about it," Watts said.
