Approximately 1,599 new graduates receive degrees

Approximately 1,599 new graduates received degrees at Auburn's commencement ceremonies today, Saturday, Dec. 10.

Alumna and executive managing editor of Cosmopolitan and Seventeen magazines Maria Baugh addressed the students at a 10 a.m. ceremony for the College of Architecture, Design and Construction; Samuel Ginn College of Engineering; School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences; College of Liberal Arts; and College of Sciences and Mathematics.

She spoke again at the 2 p.m. ceremony for the College of Agriculture; Raymond J. Harbert College of Business; College of Education; College of Human Sciences; School of Nursing; and University College.

Baugh is a two-time graduate of Auburn, earning a bachelor’s degree in pre-law in 1985 and a second bachelor’s degree in journalism in 1987. She has held her current position at Hearst Corporation since February 2016.

"I got a wonderful education here at Auburn that made my career possible," Baugh said. "You're graduating today with an incredibly valuable degree that will open all kinds of doors for you too. Once you figure out what you're meant to do and find the courage to take some chances, you'll be on your way."

Auburn awarded 116 doctoral degrees, 342 master’s degree, nine educational specialist degrees, one pharmacy degree and 1,131 bachelor’s degrees.

The bachelor’s degrees by college and school are: Raymond J. College of Business, 272; College of Liberal Arts, 220; Samuel Ginn College of Engineering, 177; College of Sciences and Mathematics, 115; College of Education, 99; College of Architecture, Design and Construction, 76; College of Agriculture, 66; College of Human Sciences, 63; University College, 26; and School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences, 17.
