Students will have two new buildings to look forward to when they return to campus in the fall.

The new School of Nursing building on South Donahue Street, which began construction in January of 2016 with a budget of $29 million, has finished being built and is now in its final stages of completion.

According to Martha Gentry of facilities management, the finishing touches such as furniture and equipment installation are under way and the construction has finished on schedule. The 89,00-square-foot building will be open to students for the fall 2017 semester.

The other building also being completed on schedule is the Mell Classroom Building. An addition to the front of RBD Library, construction began on the Mell Classrooms last December and will be completed in July.

Interior finish work such as painting, carpet installation and window treatments are almost complete according to Gentry, and construction of the front plaza is underway and will be complete for the fall semester. Furniture and equipment deliveries are planned for late July.

The completed Mell Classroom building will add 69,000 square feet to the existing RBD library which will feature 40 group study rooms, 29 active learning classrooms and two lecture halls.
