Einstein Bros. Bagels to open in Haley Center this fall

Those looking to get breakfast somewhere other than the Student Center have something to look forward to this fall.

Einstein Bros. Bagels will arrive on campus as the newest restaurant, opening on the ground floor of the Haley Center across from the University Bookstore ― more than a year after its original planned opening date.

The new breakfast spot will finish installation this summer and has been in development since being voted on by over 2,900 students in a ballot referendum in April 2016, showing the desire for the restaurant after its removal from Lupton Hall in 2012.

“This is something the students wanted,” said a spokesperson for Tiger Dining. “You asked for it, you got it.”

Students originally voted for Einstein Bro. Bagels to go in the Mell Street Classroom Building but Panera Bread, another student-aged favorite and parent company of Einstein's, approached the University about the space.

Ultimately, another survey was held and students voted for Einsteins to go in Haley and Panera to go in Mell. The Einstein's was originally set to open in Fall 2016, but the opening date was pushed back after issues with construction.

Students and Camp War Eagle participants can now see the development taking place in the form of a plywood structure around the old site of Freshens and Seattle's Best Coffee in Haley. Like its predecessor, Einstein Bros. Bagels is expected to operate between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., according to Tiger Dining.

Tiger Dining said the restaurant will take up the same amount of space as Freshens did, but seating has been requested to Haley Center and may be added in the future.

Einstein Bros. Bagels offers a variety of bagels and cream cheeses, breakfast sandwiches, lunch sandwiches and coffee. Both Tiger Cards, credit cards and cash will all be accepted.

As for the Panera Bread that was voted on last April to appear in the Mell, there is not a definite date for its completion but it is expected to be open by the end of the 2017 calendar year, Tiger Dining said.
