University to hold ribbon cutting for new marching band complex

The Auburn University Marching Band has some new toys at their practice field.

The University is hosting a ribbon cutting for the marching band's new three million dollar practice complex Friday afternoon.

The complex includes a full-size football field with artificial turf which is an exact replica of Pat Dye Field at Hordan-Hare Stadium, dressing rooms and a storage building for instruments.

The turf field was placed in the summer of 2016, just in time for usage by the group for summer band camp. The University began construction on the storage facilities and changing rooms a few months later. Those amenities were finished this past summer and have been utilized by the band for rehearsals ever since.

The ribbon cutting will be at the new complex at the corner of Hemlock Drive and West Thatch Avenue. Speakers will include President Steven Leath, Liberal Arts Dean Joe Aistrup and Drum Major Emily-Anne Nguyen to name a few.

The event will be held Friday, September 29 at 2:30 p.m. CT.
