Where to sell old clothes

When it comes to selling clothes, your gently used items definitely have some value and could be even be sold to someone else.

Sara Michaels, public relations direction for Poshmark, said that one way to sell clothes is to use an app like Poshmark.

“You simply take a few photos of your new or gently used clothing and accessories, write a quick description, set the price and put the item up for sale, all in just 60 seconds," Michaels said.

Michaels said that as our society becomes more fast paced, having this quick set up is a great tool for someone who wants to make a quick buck, especially college students.

When it comes to using the app, Michaels suggested taking great cover shots to really make your listings stand out, include detailed descriptions of your items and to make sure to share your listings as much as possible.

"The more you share, the more you sell," Michaels said.

Poshmark also has a social media aspect to the app where you can follow friends and even create closets for other people as suggestions.

"It’s also so much more than just another shopping destination, it’s a community powered by like-minded people who are becoming the next generation of retailers," said Michaels.

Another way to sell clothes is to take them into shops that buy clothes, which allows people to receive money for their items instantly. One specific shop that buys clothes is Plato's Closet.

“We pay cash on the spot for your gently used clothing, accessories, and shoes," said the director of Plato’s Closet Brad Spencer. "This is not consignment so there is no waiting for your items to sell before you get paid. It is also important to note you do not need an appointment to sell to us so bring your items in when it is convenient for you."

Spencer said this approach appeals to people for many reasons. Getting money instantly is a great incentive as well as not creating the environment, because when people recycle their clothes they are not creating more waste. They can also take a moment to walk around the store to shop for pieces that may fill the gaps of their wardrobe.

"You don’t need to bring your entire closet, but maybe just a few items you no longer need or want to update," Spencer said.

Plato's Closet is a comfortable and familiar since most people have set foot in a store.

"We have an environment that makes it easy and convenient to sell your used items for cash, we have great prices on the products we sell, and our inventory is changing constantly," Spencer said.

Most stores have the same clothes for an entire season, Plato's Closet is the exception. Because the business thrives on people bringing in clothes, you could find different things there daily.

This is attractive to consumers as well as those wishing to sell. With daily sales it creates more space for new clothes to come in.

Both options support different lifestyles giving an array of options.
