A spirit that is not afraid

Syklus

– Looking for a new, fun workout routine? Cycling could be your answer and you are in luck because this spring, there will be a brand-new studio opening in Auburn on E Glenn Avenue.

Michael King and Jamie Muth are opening Syklus, a studio that offers cycling classes, yoga & mindfulness/restorative classes, a licensed esthetician providing services (facials, ect.) and a masseuse.

King is from Kansas City, MO and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Honors Program at St. John’s University (MN), where he majored in Economics and minored in Latin. King played ice hockey and lacrosse and worked as a personal trainer during the summer. He was a full scholarship recipient at the University of Maryland Carey School of Law, however left after one semester to move to Auburn and pursue the National Team.

Muth graduated with honors from American University (DC), where she was a Pre-Law major while working at the top cycling studio in the Washington, DC, metro.

“After relocating to Auburn last January to train so that I could join the USMNT, which works year-round at Auburn University, we were both searching for ways to get involved in community and looking for projects to help us carve out a place in our new home,” King said. Muth had to put law school on pause, as Auburn does not offer a law school, as well as her love for indoor cycling because of the limitations of Auburn’s fitness offerings.

“With sanity fading, I offered that we should create the fitness outlet she missed, since I couldn’t very well build her law school,” King said. With both of their heavy involvement in fitness, things started to add up very quickly. King and Muth were ready to put together something that Auburn was missing.

In the spring of 2018 and hopefully within the next month, Syklus will open. “Our core value is that fitness should and can be for everyone. While health & wellness is a personal choice, we want to do everything in our power to make that choice as appealing as possible,” King said. Syklus aims to create a new paradigm of fitness for Auburn.

“Our aim is to create a unifying, unparalleled destination for Auburn students and Auburn residents (besides Jordan-Hare!) where they can find a supportive and fun community, resources and programs that help each of them reach their own goals, and an overall approach that allows anyone to find greater health and wellness, in mind and body,” King said.

The typical class will cost $20 if you chose to go 1 by 1. However, Syklus will also offer numerous packages for ones looking to go on a consistent basis. A few main options that include their current, promotional opening prices are:

Unlimited Memberships ($129/month) will grant access to all classes across our yoga and cycling schedules as well as discounts on services from the esthetician and masseuse.

Student Unlimited Memberships ($49/month, open to anyone with a valid college ID, will grant access to multiple yoga and cycling classes per day as well as discounts on services from the esthetician and masseuse.

Skylus offers a variety of class options. The typical cycling and yoga class are 45 minutes and 60 minutes. To sign up for classes, you can either go to Syklus.co or go on the Syklus App, which is available on the Apple Store or Google Play.

For cycling, specific shoes are needed. However, Syklus will have shoes available for rental with each class, the cost of which is included in any membership package. “That said, there is nothing like having our own pair, which we can help with as well,” King said.

“We invested ourselves in cycling, and yoga for that matter, to availing an incomparable experience and better health because of the unique cross-section of enjoyment, accessibility, and challenge they offer,” King said. On top of that, cycling is low impact and allows you to do it day in and day out, which helps with overall health and accountability.

“This low impact also allows for the bodies to react more predictably. Jamie and I can attest from personal experience, one person can hemorrhage good weight while the other gains undesired weight from the same workout, due to body’s unique reactions to the shock of repeated ground forces that many other workouts feature.” King said.

There will be a grand opening, with information to come soon on their website (skylus.co), where everyone will receive a voucher to get their first ride free.
