Auburn walked off by Texas A&M, loses series in pitcher's duel

No. 12 Auburn fell to No. 11 Texas A&M in walk-off fashion.

After losing the first game of the weekend series on Friday, Auburn was only able to tally a single hit in Saturday’s matchup.

Makayla Martin (14-5) drops her fifth game of the season after Aggie starter Samantha Show bested her in the pitcher’s duel. Martin allowed only two hits going into the seventh, but with two outs in bottom of the inning, Texas A&M rallied with three consecutive singles to walk it off, 1-0.

"We never gave ourselves a chance," Auburn head coach Mickey Dean said.

Taylon Snow started the game with a lead-off double for the Tigers, but Auburn did not record a hit after.

"Our offensive effort was not where it needed to be," Dean said. "When you're pitching like that and playing defense, you got to do something on offense. Something to give yourself an opportunity to win a ballgame, to at least challenge the other team, and we didn't do that today."

Auburn suffered its seventh one-run loss of the season and it is also the fifth loss on a walk-off.

With the loss, Auburn dropped to 38-13 (11-11) while A&M improved to 39-12 (11-8). The Tigers will look to avoid the sweep tomorrow at 1 p.m. CST.
