Auburn transfer guard Mustapha Heron has committed to St. John's, ESPN's Jeff Borzello reported Thursday evening.
Earlier in the day, Heron posted a picture on Twitter at St. John's University in a Red Storm jersey. The New York Times' Adam Zagoria reported Tuesday that the Waterbury, Connecticut, product decided to withdraw from the NBA Draft and was seeking a new school to be closer to his ailing mother, Thalia Heron, who suffered a massive concussion and "has been sick for a year."

After opting out of the draft, Heron applied for a hardship waiver to be eligible for the 2018-19 season at St. John's. His mother reportedly had 30 doctor's appointments and five emergency room visits in the past year.
Heron, Auburn's first five-star prospect in program history, averaged 16.4 points and 5.3 rebounds last year on his way to earning second team All-SEC honors. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard led the team in scoring in both of his two seasons on The Plains.
