Another day. Another watch list.
Just one day after being listed as a member of the Maxwell Award preseason watch list, quarterback Jarrett Stidham received another honor, being named to the Davey O’Brien preseason watch list.
The Davey O’Brien trophy, awarded to eventual Heisman winner Baker Mayfield last season, is given to the nations top college quarterback. The preseason accolade includes 26 of the country's top signal-callers, including six from the SEC (Jake Bentley, Nick Fitzgerald, Jake Fromm, Jalen Hurts, Drew Lock).
Stidham churned out an impressive season on The Plains in 2017, leading the Tigers to an SEC Western division title and an appearance in a New Year’s Six bowl game while throwing for 3,158 yards and 18 touchdowns, and adding four on the ground.
The sixteen semifinalists will be named on Tuesday, Nov. 6. From that list, the foundation will announce the three finalists on Monday, Nov. 19. The 2018 Davey O’Brien Award winner will be unveiled live Thursday, Dec. 6, during The Home Depot College Football Awards.
