Country music stars Chris Lane, Jon Pardi will be featured during homecoming week

“Auburn students obviously love country music,” said Caroline Scott, UPC director of major entertainment. “A lot of students, that is like the hot genre for them, so that’s why we chose country music this year.”

UPC will host Chris Lane and Jon Pardi on Thursday, Sept. 27 on the Green Space as part of homecoming week.

University Program Council is rebranding Auburn Airwaves as it is bringing Chris Lane and Jon Pardi to homecoming week this year.

UPC will host the country music artists on the Green Space on Thursday, Sept. 27 to lead into the weekend. Admission is free for Auburn students, while non-students will be able to purchase tickets beginning Aug. 22.

“Auburn students obviously love country music,” said Caroline Scott, UPC director of major entertainment. “A lot of students, that is like the hot genre for them, so that’s why we chose country music this year.”

Auburn Airwaves was an annual concert put on by UPC, which last year featured popular rapper 2 Chainz. Scott said they wanted to switch it up to give students a good variety.

“We thought since we did hip-hop last year, try something new that we think is going to be hot and something to get excited about, so we went with a country vibe,” Scott said.

Scott said she liked the idea of pairing a well-established artist with an up-and-coming artist, who may have a handful of radio hits.

After moving into a solo career, Chris Lane has released the albums “Girl Problems” and “Laps Around the Sun” with four singles on the top country charts, including the number one hit “Fix.”

In 2017, Jon Pardi won the award for new male vocalist of the year at the Academy of Country Music Awards and new artist of the year at the Country Music Association Awards. He has had eight singles featured on the Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts.

“If you listen to country music stations, they will be playing over and over again throughout the day,” Scott said.

UPC is hoping that the event will attract families to come to town a little earlier this year for homecoming, Scott said.

The event is partnered with Beat Bama Food Drive, and UPC is encouraging students to bring two canned food items to the event.
