Police responded to a shooting at the McDonald's on West Magnolia Avenue early Sunday morning, Sept. 9, 2018.

Mallory Hagan, Democratic candidate in Alabama’s 3rd Congressional District, said she sends her prayers to the victims of the shooting in Auburn early Sunday morning.

“At least three Alabama communities were touched by another shooting incident last night," Hagan said.

The shooting was reported early Sunday morning to Auburn Police. A 20-year-old male from Tuskegee, Alabama, died in the shooting.

Four people were injured in the shooting, one of them a 21-year-old male Auburn student from Hilton Head, South Carolina, who was transported to East Alabama Medical Center by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries. Another 17-year-old male from Opelika, Alabama, and a 19-year-old female from Opelika, Alabama, were also injured and transported to EAMC with non-life-threatening injuries.

A 16-year-old male from Opelika, Alabama, was airlifted to Piedmont Columbus Regional Medical Center by air ambulance with serious injures.

One was killed and four were injured in a shooting at a McDonald's on West Magnolia Avenue in Auburn, Alabama, on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018.

“Gun violence that happens far away impacts us because it happens here, too," Hagan said. "Right across the street from Auburn University, a young man from Tuskegee was killed, and a student was injured along with two teens from Opelika."

The district Hagan is running for encompasses Calhoun, Chambers, Cherokee, Clay, Cleburne, Lee, Macon, Randolph, Russell, St. Clair, Talladega, and Tallapoosa Counties.

“Even when there is criminal motive, families must cope with loss and the pain of wondering whether they could have done something to stop the violence," Hagan said. "Our prayers are with the victims, their families and all who knew them in our communities.”
